Happy anniversary, Nuke fans!

The show has been monumental for the gay community, and in the movie we meet some of the fans on whom it’s made an impact. What was it like meeting Trent, who was inspired by the Kurt and Blaine storyline?

Chris Colfer: It’s crazy when you represent such a select community, just the stories that you hear that are heartbreaking, inspiring, and they always thank you so much, not realizing that it’s really them who are brave, and it’s them who are the strong ones.

Darren Criss: I was going to say the same thing. It’s people who are always asking us about those stories, and it’s mutually inspiring, whatever things that we’ve given them via our writers. We’re part of something that’s so much greater than just the characters, it’s a greater story and a greater ideal, and I think they are much greater than they think they are because it comes right back to us, and that goes into every performance, and it’s not just a job anymore, it’s like I’ve been given this superhero’s costume, and I get to play it, and it’s a privilege.

The cast of “Glee” will be helping fashionistas shop till they drop on Sept. 8 for this year’s Fashion’s Night Out event, to be held in stores across the country and online.

Sources told Page Six that “Glee” cast members will act as spokespersons for the worldwide shopping initiative spearheaded by Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour. During the event, participating stores offer special products, discounts and extend normal shopping hours.

Glee” stars Lea Michele, Dianna Agron, Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss and others will appear at retail locations from New York to Los Angeles, insiders said.

Kristen Wiig recently lined up her first post-Bridesmaids project, Imogene, about a woman who fakes suicide to get back with an ex but ends up having to go live with her gambling-addict mom, who will be played by Annette Bening, instead. Last week, buried in a Deadline story, was the rumor that Glee’s Darren Criss would also appear in the film in some capacity. Well, last night, at the premiere of The Whistleblower, we spoke with Celine Rattray — who produced that film and will also be producing Imogene — who confirmed Criss’s involvement and also shared some details about his and Bening’s characters. The takeaway: Wiig will be making out with Darren Criss, and Annette Bening is going to look like she’s on Jersey Shore. As if we weren’t already excited for this movie!

As for Criss’s role, Rattray said he would play “a younger love interest. When Kristen goes back home from New Jersey she falls for someone.” Presumably someone who does a cloyingly great cover of “Teenage Dream.”

When talking about LGBT representation in soaps, no one can forget As the World Turns’ Luke and Noah. The couple had a rocky start as one of them had difficulties coming to terms with his sexual orientation while the other had been hurt too many times before. After they kiss, in what was daytime’s first-ever kiss between two gay characters, the two finally start dating. They realized they really cared for each other after Noah’s dad tried to shoot Luke. Their storyline quickly became a fan favorite. Eventually the two split, Noah was left heartbroken and Luke found love again with a neurosurgeon, but his happiness ended abruptly with the death of his new boyfriend in a train accident. The ‘Nuke’ storyline came to an end as ATWT was cancelled, and while most of the other characters found a happy ending, that wasn’t the case for daytime’s gay super-couple. Fans are now trying to revive their storyline with an online campaign to develop a film around Luke and Noah.

About that narrative. For a TV show that hinges on breakups and makeups, the show’s only couple to receive any explicit story during the tour was Blaine and Kurt, in the form of a skit featuring Brittany towards the end of the night. On last year’s tour she embarrassed herself by hitting on Kurt; to redeem herself this year she sets her sights on someone new, yet equally as unattainable—Blaine. When he turns her down, noting that he’s “taken,” Kurt appears on stage and shoos her off, only to get on one knee and “propose” that his boyfriend join the Glee club for the rest of the evening. Chris Colfer changed up Kurt’s lines each night, suiting his proposal to the city and vamping on topics like the name of his and Blaine’s first adopted child and calling out equal marriage laws in appropriate states. On Saturday he referenced the ensuing marriage equality vote, then dropped to his knee and told Blaine “you complete me” before launching into the various ways he does so—the construction to his Brooklyn Bridge, the waitlist to his Serendipity, etc. Blaine, of course, responded positively and changed out of his Dalton-wear in time to join the group for the final numbers.

The overwhelmingly positive reaction should be no surprise based on the media frenzy over Glee’s gay storylines this season and the particular appeal of Colfer and Criss, seeing an arena full of fans of all ages cheering for one boy faux-proposing to another made the greasy-nacho-filled hours I spent on Long Island worthwhile.

Blaine and Kurt’s cute spoken interlude, in which Kurt finally proposed… that Blaine join the Glee Club. Before revealing that punchline, Chris Colfer mentioned that a certain law had just been passed in New York, which really got the crowd excited.

If ever there was a moment where a collective audience cried “squee!” into their Tumblrs and Twitter accounts at the same time, it was when “Glee’s” out-gay teen Kurt Hummel met the swoontastic (and equally out) Blaine Anderson in 2010. It helped that Blaine essentially serenaded Kurt—and the “Glee” viewers at home—with an all-male a capella rendition of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream.” The meeting not only launched a landmark prime-time teen gay romance (including a buzzed-about kiss in March 2011), but a lauded storyline about bullying. As a bonus, the “Glee” cast earned its best single sales week for a download with the release of “Teenage Dream” (214,000)—a record the cast has yet to break.
